These days, durian in the gardens in Da Huoai district (Lam Dong) enters the ripe stage, the atmosphere of harvesting and trading takes place busy.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Da Huoai district, the district has about 4,500 hectares of durian and is cultivated in a concentrated form. Of these, about 2,000 hectares have been used for business.
Currently, in order to ensure the source of quality products, Da Huoai district has encouraged and supported people to implement the VietGAP durian production model, organic durian... According to statistics, the whole district currently has over 800ha meet VietGAP durian standards.
Mr. Le Quang Thuyen (living in Da M'Ri Town, Da Huoai District) said that his family planted 100 Thai durian roots, 70 Ri6 durian roots and all harvested them in the 4th year. the family harvests about 20 tons of fruit. The price of durians purchased by traders at the garden ranges from 35,000 to 45,000 VND/kg," said Mr. Thuyen.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son, Director of Da M'Ri Agricultural Cooperative, said that the cooperative currently has 80 members with a total durian area of about 150ha, of which 80ha has been harvested. This year, the cooperative's durian output is around 800 tons. "Durian has a good season and a good price, so the members of the cooperative are very excited," said Mr. Son.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son, the cooperative's durian is produced according to VietGAP standards with organic orientation to meet market requirements.
Da Huoai durian is mainly consumed by the Chinese market, so the local agricultural industry has taken measures to support people in organizing VietGAP production, carrying out procedures for granting planting area codes. to prepare for official export through this market.
Durian production model in Da Huoai is being implemented according to the method of applying watering and fertilizing technology through an economical irrigation system. Farmers also maintain grass in the garden floor to ensure soil moisture, creating an environment for earthworms and microorganisms to grow.
For the areas where VietGAP has not been produced, people also limit the use of fertilizers and chemical pesticides.
Mr. Pham Quang Chien, Head of Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Da Huoai district, said that durian is one of the main crops of the district and a crop of high economic value. Currently, the district's durian output reaches from 25,000 to 30,000 tons/year.
According to the farmers here, with the current selling price (35,000 to 45,000 VND/kg), gardeners have the opportunity to earn hundreds of millions of VND/ha.
Durian Da Huoai (Lam Dong) starts the harvest from June and ends in August. This harvest time does not coincide with the season of Dak Lak, Dong Nai or the West durian, so this is an advantage in market development.
