Vietnam agriculture is expected to gain 40 billion USD from exports in 2020
This information has been announced by Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, at the press conference organized in Hanoi on the results of work in 2015 and key tasks in 2016 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
According to Mr. Tuan, the year 2015 is considered a difficult year for the whole agricultural sector with many unfavorable factors in both market and weather. However, with efforts to overcome difficulties, the agricultural sector still maintained the momentum of growth and had 10 items with export turnover reached over $1 billion (rice, coffee, rubber, fish, shrimp, cashew nuts, pepper, vegetables, cassava and furniture).
Reported from the Conference of summarizing the Agriculture and Rural Development sector in 2015 and implementing tasks in 2016 which took place this morning, Minister Cao Duc Phat also pointed out that, thanks to the timely and direct deployment of restructuring, the whole industry has maintained growth momentum with improvement in quality.
"Overall in the period 2011 - 2015, with many difficulties in the general context, the agriculture sector still achieved the goal of sustained growth, meeting increasing demand for food in domestic consumption and increasing exports; raising incomes, improving living conditions of rural population, using and protecting natural resources in a sustainable way," said Minister Cao Duc Phat.
Specifically, the average growth rate of the industry in the period 2011 - 2015 reached 3.13%, exceeding the target (from 2.8 to 3%). The output value saw an average increase of 3.68%/ year. The export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fisheries in 2015 was estimated at 30.14 billion USD.
In the plan on agricultural and rural development in 2016 and 5 years from 2016 to 2020, Minister Cao Duc Phat mentioned the overall objective as follow: "Building a comprehensive agricultural development towards modernization, producing greater goods, high and sustainable value-added, meeting the diverse domestic needs and export promotion; promoting new rural construction, raising incomes and rapidly improving the lives of the rural population; managing and efficient using natural resources, protecting ecological environment, thus contributing to national security and defense. "
To achieve this goal, in 2016, Minister Cao Duc Phat specified, the Agriculture and Rural Development sector will focus on implementing a strong restructure, enhancing the value and efficiency of production, creating more obvious changes in practice, striving to achieve a higher growth rate in 2015.
In particular, the Ministry will focus on implementing some key tasks such as reviewing and adjusting the production structure in line with the advantages of each locality and the country and the evolution of the weather, the market ; promoting international economic integration, market development, export promotion.
On the other hand, the Ministry will also concentrate on developing forms of cooperation and connection following the value chain between farmers and enterprises, scientists, credit institutions; taking enterprises as the core of the value chain and promoting research; transferring and applying science and technology to create a breakthrough in restructuring.
