As soon as the field was opened, it rained heavily
Mr. Do Anh Tuan (hamlet Kenh 5B, Tan An commune, Tan Hiep, Kien Giang) sits with his knees folded in his house looking out at the rice fields that are drifting in the rain, but his heart is like fire. Working hard for more than 3 months, right at the time when the rice was about to be harvested, it encountered adverse weather, heavy rain and strong wind all day and night. In the summer-autumn rice crop of 2022, Mr. Tuan and his brother invested in the production of 55 workers (8ha) of OM18 seed rice and received a deposit from the trader to lock in the price of 6,100 VND/kg.
According to Mr. Tuan, in this crop alone, the cost of investing in rice seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides has been over 1.5 million VND/worker due to the high price of materials. Now, the cost of pumping and slapping increases, because the motor has to run continuously to draw water out for a few days to save the rice from being flooded. The cost of cutting also increased due to the fall of rice… Adding all the costs would increase by more than 2 million VND/work, reducing profit.
Canal 5B still has 1/2 hamlet (upstream side) sowing the same rice variety OM18 with a total area of about 120ha unharvested. A few households had just called the mower to open a few plots (3ha each) when they encountered heavy rain and had to stop. Mr. Tuan sadly said: "According to the appointment, today (July 13) the machine will go down to the field to harvest, now it has to stop, not sure when the rain will stop to cut it. Traders have also contacted to ask for a discount, but the price of rice in the market has decreased if the price is kept low, if the price is fixed, there will be a loss."

Through inspection, the water level on canals in the northern part of National Highway 1A is currently rising, causing flooding in some low-lying areas (from 0.5 to 0.6m).
