On the afternoon of July 12, Mr. Huynh Quang Duc, deputy director of the Ben Tre Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that the province is completing the procedures for the project to build a national-scale plant and flower seed center in Cho Lach district. The project has a total investment capital of more than 5.3 billion VND, deployed from now to 2025.
The objective of the project is to produce seedlings of national standards. By 2025, the locality will ensure a stable supply for the market of 17-20 million seedlings; supplying 40% of fruit varieties for the whole country, gardeners will earn an average profit of 600 million VND per hectare per year. With ornamental flowers, the district will have 370 ha of yellow apricot and bougainvillea, with an output of 1.3-3.8 million plants, earning a profit of over 900 billion dong.
Cho Lach was chosen to build an ornamental flower center because it is the only district in the province that has fresh water almost all year round. This is also the largest seed production place in the country with an area of more than 1,500 hectares, over 7,500 production households, each year supplying 15-18 million seedlings of all kinds such as durian, mango, jackfruit...
