Solving environmental problems in shrimp farming with biogas 4.0 technology

Recently, white leg shrimp farming has brought about high economic efficiency in Tra Vinh. However, climate change has seriously affected pond environmental conditions.

In order to limit damage, Tra Vinh Agricultural Extension Center has developed and applied a technical process of intensive white leg shrimp farming in two stages, applying 4.0 technology in combination with a biogas cellar for environmental treatment.

The objective is to raise large, quality seeds for commercial farming, to limit disease, develop stably, and improve the efficiency of white leg shrimp farming.

In order to implement the project, Tra Vinh Agricultural Extension Center has conducted training for farmers on farming techniques, diary recording, and technology application in high-density and high-density white-leg shrimp farming. operation management of biogas cellar in environmental protection.

Thereby, the project allowed 2 farming households: Nguyen Hoang Kim Dinh to implement the model in Hiep My Tay commune, Cau Ngang district (scale: 1ha), and Le Van Ben to implement the model in Don Chau commune, Duyen Hai district (scale: 1ha). The project has installed 2 sets of environmental monitoring and built 2 biogas tanks for 2 households participating in the model.

Through implementation, shrimp farming in the model achieved very high efficiency compared to neighboring farming households. At the same stocking density, the survival rate of the project shrimp is 94%, 24% higher than that of traditional farmers. Harvested shrimp size is 55 shrimp/kg, yield is 34 tons/ha, and feed factor is only 1.2.

Talking about the economic efficiency of the automatic environmental warning system application model, which helps to well manage environmental factors such as pH, temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen, thereby reducing risks and damages, reducing the work of caring for and monitoring the pond environment, contributing to increase productivity and product quality, reduce production costs, and increase income for participating households.

Through evaluation, the productivity of the farming model reached 34 tons/ha/crop with a product cost of about 88,000 VND/kg, the selling price of 117,500 VND/kg, and a profit of over 1 billion VND/ha/crop, higher than that of the farmers. Traditional farming is about 670 million VND, compared to 324 million VND in the explanation.

In particular, the products made ensure biosecurity, actively control diseases, do not use antibiotics and chemicals, and waste put into the biogas cellar is not discharged directly to the outside, thus limiting environmental pollution. market in the current high-density intensive shrimp farming.

Mr. Le Van Ben, the household participating in the evaluation of the effectiveness of environmental protection is excellent. Previously, when the biogas tank was not used, the wastewater discharged into the river was black, and many farmers complained to each other. Currently, Mr. Ben said that it is recommended to replicate the model of using biogas in waste treatment of high-tech shrimp farming siphons. In addition, he saved the labor of inspecting and monitoring the farming environment from 4 people to 2 because the environmental indicators are generated through the application connected to the phone.

“The biogas tank made of Thanh Dong Company composite materials is light, easy to move, 17 blocks but very well handles siphon waste for 4 farming ponds (about 5,000m2). All solid waste is left in the biogas tank. The effect is very good for the environment," said Mr. Ben excitedly about the immediate effect.
