Kon Tum to develop Ngoc Linh ginseng into a tourism product of the province

Ngoc Linh ginseng and other specialty products are being promoted by Kon Tum province as a valuable part of the province's tourism.

Discussing this topic in Tu Mo Rong district in Ngoc Linh on April 24, the district’s leaders said that after more than 20 years of collecting, breeding and developing, Kon Tum province has so far developed more than 1,200 ha of Ngoc Linh ginseng. The area is completely under the canopy of natural forest, concentrated mainly in Tu Mo Rong district with more than 1,190 hectares. The rest is in Dak Glei district.

Ngoc Linh ginseng brand has gone beyond Kon Tum to become a "national treasure". But along with that, many organizations and individuals have come up with "fake online ginseng gardens" for money. Fake ginseng is sold in many places, especially online. Even in the Ngoc Linh ginseng growing area, there are bad guys who infiltrate to trick on consumers.

Mr. Vo Trung Manh, Chairman of Tu Mo Rong District People's Committee assessed that Ngoc Linh forest and ginseng associated with tourism are Tu Mo Rong's advantages. "The district will try to promote the issuance of Ngoc Linh ginseng product stamps to businesses, organizations and individuals to reassure the reliability of the ginseng for customers" - Mr. Manh informed.

Mr. Dang Thanh Long, Chairman of Kon Tum Union of Science and Technology Associations, suggested that it is necessary to build a brand, establish intellectual property rights, trace the origin and label, and publicize the quality of products so that consumers will feel more confident when buying the product.

Vo Tan Liem, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kon Tum province, said that it is necessary to: (1) focus on investing in the development of medicinal herbs associated with processing, science and technology; (2) to support organizations and enterprises producing and trading in pharmaceutical materials and Ngoc Linh ginseng to declare the quality, and to register codes, barcodes, product designs, and trade names. It is necessary to register and protect geographical indications and trademarks of Ngoc Linh ginseng abroad as soon as possible for export.

Currently, Kon Tum province is developing a plan to make Ngoc Linh Ginseng become the main tourist product of Kon Tum province in association with experience tours "to the national treasure" to promote this specialty product.
