Quang Binh Agricultural Extension Center - Quang Binh has implemented the model of organic rice production in association with product consumption in Quang Ninh district. Van La agricultural production and business service cooperative (Luong Ninh commune) is an affiliated unit. with an area of 5 hectares.
In addition, the Center also implemented a model with Mr. Nguyen Thanh Huong's household (in Quang Hoa commune, Ba Don town), with an area of 3ha.
The objective of the model is to transfer techniques of organic rice variety ST25 to farmers for replication in production, towards building a brand of organic rice.
“We hope to thereby contribute to the transformation of agricultural production from quantity to quality and value according to the link chain on the basis of organic agriculture” - Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Director of the Center for Agricultural Extension - KN Quang Binh said.
Implementing the model, the cooperative and participating households all ensure technical factors, especially using only organic fertilizers and biological products to replace chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Despite facing many adverse weather conditions, especially off-season rains and cold spells in February and April 2022, thanks to ensuring technical factors, the model has achieved the set requirements.
On the model area, not only the seed germination reached 95%, but the rice plants grew and developed well, with strong tillering. At the end of the last winter-spring crop, the rice yield at Van La Cooperative reached 50 quintals/ha. Particularly, the rice area of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Huong's household reached 55 quintals/ha.
“The original organic rice production model has the same yield as conventional production. However, the product quality is higher, safe, friendly to people and the environment. When we sell rice to the market, the price is many times higher than normal rice, so farmers make a big profit, "- Mr. Huong shared.
With the support of Quang Binh Agricultural Extension Center, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hai's family (in Hien Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district), boldly improved the low-efficient farmland to produce rice and fish.
The center provided technical support, seeds and fertilizer materials, and Mr. Hai embarked on a model of organic rice combined with fish farming with high spirits on an area of 2.5 hectares.
According to engineer Nguyen Van Hung, technical officer of Quang Binh Agricultural Extension Center, the combination of organic rice farming with fish farming brings dual effects. Fish and rice have a symbiotic relationship, thus reducing production costs, especially limiting the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers.
Thereby, creating products that are safe for consumers. “The model of using high-quality rice variety ST25 also helps to create products of high economic value, increasing value per unit area in agricultural production. Moreover, when there is a high income from organic production, it will create a new mindset for people to learn and follow, "- Mr. Hung added.
When harvesting rice, Hai also harvests farmed fish. The average rice yield is 55 quintals/ha. Farmed fish production is estimated at about 1 ton/ha. Mr. Hai said: “Accounting costs and actual income shows that the organic rice-fish production model brings a much higher economic return. From this model, my family has an income of more than 50 million VND/ha.”
Mr. Hai also said that the biggest achievement of the model is that it has opened up an environmentally friendly farming direction because it does not use pesticides as before. "Our farmers are also very secure because we have created products that are both safe and of high quality," said Mr. Hai.
The initial effectiveness of ST25 rice production models in the organic direction associated with product consumption and high-quality rice cultivation combined with fish farming has opened a new direction for farmers. According to Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Director of Quang Binh Agricultural Extension Center, the diversification of farming forms, gradually switching to quality agricultural production, increasing production value associated with ecological environment protection. . “In the coming time, we will continue to expand more models of organic rice production in many localities to raise the value of rice grains. Thereby, propagating and encouraging farmers to gradually switch to organic production," added Mr. Hai.
