HA NOI — Cutting-edge technology will be applied in the cultivation of tomatoes and low-potassium lettuce in Viet Nam as part of an agriculture collaboration between Vietnamese multinational information technology corporation FPT and Fujitsu, a leading provider of IT products and services. At the opening ceremony of the FPT-Fujitsu smart agriculture cooperation centre yesterday, Chairman of FPT's Board of Directors Truong Gia Binh underscored that being a leading IT enterprise in Viet Nam, FPT wants to bring state-of-the-art technologies to modernise the country's agriculture.

Agricultural cooperation between Vietnam and Japan has been developing over recent years; last November the export of Vietnamese mangoes to Japan was permitted and subsequently, Japanese apples were licensed to be exported to Vietnam. At the end of last year, 25 tons of Japanese apples bearing the Aomori brand were officially exported to Vietnam and sold in Aeon supermarket chains.

The fields around the Spread factory in Kameoka, a satellite town west of the Japanese city of Kyoto, are scrubby and barren – the farmers there have long since harvested the rice ahead of winter. While it doesn’t generally get too cold in this part of Japan, the temperature drops enough to halt crop farming for four to five months.

Hanoi- FPT Corporation and Fujitsu Limited today inaugurated Fujitsu - FPT Akisai Farm and Vegetable Factory to spotlight the FUJITSU Intelligent Society Solution "Akisai" Food and Agriculture Cloud. This factory is implementing two production facilities: greenhouse cultivation and vegetable factory cultivation for high value-added vegetables including medium-sized tomatoes and low-potassium leaf lettuce.

CUU LONG DELTA — Local authorities plan to dredge rivers and canals in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta to create more irrigation water for 300,000ha of newly planted rice crops, which face saline-water intrusion and a water shortage. Disease outbreaks among crops could also occur, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said. To deal with emergencies, local plant protection and cultivation departments have been told to monitor weather conditions.

HANOI - Vietnamese coffee exporters are not shipping fresh stock this week as they face tight supply due to dry weather prevailing in the country, traders said on Tuesday. The dry season in Vietnam, the world's top robusta producer, has started peaking in the Central Highlands coffee belt, requiring growers to step up the watering of trees. Traders said many growers were not selling their produce because domestic prices did not improve much from late February, when a kg of robusta was 29,300-29,500 dong ($1.3), the lowest since mid-Nov 2013.

HCM CITY —  A wide range of furniture, handicrafts, interior décor and support industry products are on display at the VIFA-EXPO 2016 that opened in HCM City yesterday. The annual Việt Nam International Furniture and Home Accessories Fair has seen an increase of 42 per cent in the number of exhibitors and its scale has gone up by 36 per cent over last year, said Nguyá»…n Quốc Khanh, chairman of the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of HCM City (Hawa).

Bijnor: Several teams comprising agricultural scientists from Indonesia, Brazil, Vietnam and Nigeria have landed in Bijnor to study 'very good recovery rate' of sugar from sugarcane. Apart from visiting the fields and studying soil samples, they will also visit sugar mills of the region. According to OP Singh, district cane officer, "Representatives from four countries -- Brazil, Indonesia, Vietnam and Naigeria -- have come here to know the working condition of our factories and to talk to the farmers about the cultivation of sugarcane in these areas. The 19-member is divided into four parts. Teams from Brazil and Nigeria have four members each, while Indonesia had three and Vietnam eight members."

Vietnam has abundant agricultural resources, but its experts continue to argue about what farm produce would earn big money.  “If Vietnam focuses on organic agriculture, its farm produce would have great advantages in the world market,” said Nguyen Lam Vien, General Director of Vinamit, a company that makes dried fruit. Dragon fruit which is a favorite in many markets in the world has been grown in Binh Thuan province for 20 years. 

The country has over 27 thousand hectares of planted all kinds of flowers, equivalently of the large flower-exporting countries in the world, such as India, Netherlands ... Whether large production area and quite-large amount of flowers, flower-exporting of Vietnam is still limited.

HCM CITY — The municipal agriculture department plans to expand application of Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practices (VietGap) standards to 1,730ha, or 50 per cent of the city's vegetable gardens, by 2015. Le Minh Dung, deputy director of the city's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, told a forum organised recently in HCM City that by then, 30 per cent of vegetable gardens in the city are expected to have VietGap certification.

"Cooperatives are key components to implement policy of restructuring agricultural sector and build a new countryside", said Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat at the conference on 3-year implementation of the Cooperative Law held on 2^nd March in Ha Noi.

With its new solid tyre plant in Vietnam’s Bình DÆ°Æ¡ng Province, Camso says it aims to “gain leadership position in the Asian material handling market.” The off-road tyre and track specialist completed the 23,000 square metre plant in the town of Tân Uyên within 14 months and views the site as “an ideal location” for further diversifying Camso’s manufacturing operations and improving the company’s competitiveness.

On 1^st March, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Deputy Minister Vu Van Tam authorized by the Minister Cao Duc Phat awarded the medal "For the Cause of Agriculture and Rural Development" to Mr. Nguyen Trung Dung – Minister Counselor of Vietnam Embassy in Japan. Deputy Minister Vu Van Tam gave thanks and appreciated what Mr. Nguyen Trung Dung at Vietnam Embassy in Japan has contributed to agricultural sector, especially in efforts to expand agricultural diplomatic relations with Japan. Specifically, he supported, consulted and coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to participate in Food Security Conference in Niigata (Japan) which helped to improve the position of Vietnam agriculture in Japan as well as in other international organizations.
