Ninh Thuan agriculture creates a miracle

Spectacular growth

According to Mr. Dang Kim Cuong, Director of Ninh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, despite the complicated development of Covid-19, the department and agencies, departments and sectors have directed the administration from the beginning of the year. Local authorities together develop specific plans and actions with scenarios of “production development” associated with “Covid-19 prevention and control” close to the actual situation.

Thanks to timely and effective coordination, the fields of agricultural, forestry and fishery production all increase sharply compared to the same period last year.

The growth rate of agriculture value is estimated at VND 12,414.8 billion, an increase of 6.5% compared to 2020. This is the highest growth rate of Ninh Thuan's agricultural industry in many years - a miracle, especially considering the existing Covid-19 pandemic.

Regarding cultivation, Ninh Thuan’s agricultural sector has developed a detailed crop production plan in consideration of the water source.

Ninh Thuan organize mass seeding by promoting the role of 31 large fields utilized to create samples then select appropriate new varieties. The provincial leaders focus on the mechanization rate, converting crops, increasing the area that applies advanced production procedures, and effectively preventing diseases on crops. The province's cultivation field in 2021 therefore experiences an outstanding increase in comparison to 2020 in both productivity and output.

Regarding livestock production, Ninh Thuan effectively promotes breeding and herd improvement to increase the weight of released hogs.

This province also gains a proactive stance in terms of breeding stock and vaccination. The pig farming model linked with the two companies C.P and CJ now prospers with a total scale of 54 farms (an increase of 15 farms compared to the end of 2020). The output of live hogs for slaughter increased significantly in just one year.

In the aquaculture field, by the end of 2021, 95% of fishing vessels with offshore fishing quotas have installed cruise monitoring equipment, nearly 71% of ships have horizontal detectors, very convenient for instructing and organizing fishing activities.

Solidarity groups can spend a long time at sea, from the DK1 staging area to the fishing grounds of the southern provinces. Travel time is now reduced, and fishing activities progress more and more efficiently.

At the meeting with Ninh Thuan People's Committee at the end of November 2021, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien highly regarded the achievements of Ninh Thuan's agricultural sector. With a growth rate of 6.5%, this remarkable achievement is the payback for Ninh Thuan’s great efforts in the context that Covid-19 persists in showing complicated development.

High-tech application for agriculture - Key development task

Ninh Thuan is determined to restructure the agricultural industry towards adaptation to climate change based on support policies for agricultural and rural development in line with the development of high-tech agriculture.

The province will initiate the transformation in crop structure towards sustainability, using high-valued and water-saving crops specifically grapes, apples and upland crops with an area of 1,300 - 1,500 ha. At least 400 ha of inefficient rice land shall be replaced.

Along with the production reorganization of production and agriculture restructuring, Ninh Thuan aims to promote trades, develop the market and strengthen its management of product quality. The One Commune One Product program in Ninh Thuan will continue supporting the construction, management and development of collective brands as well as geographical indications for advantageous and unique local products.

The year 2021 is the start of a 5-year plan period, so the budget from the National Target Program for tasks such as “new rural construction”, the program “socio-economic development in ethnic minorities in the 2021-2030 period” has just stopped at the approval the National Assembly and not yet had capital for implementation.

New rural construction seems difficult to initiate as planned. Implementation of agricultural and rural development support and the OCOP program also has to be put on hold temporarily.
