Mr. Pham Van Han was one of the first people in Quang Kim, Bat Xat district (Lao Cai) to raise kumquat fish. In April 2019, he invested over 1.5 billion VND to buy seeds and renovate over 3,000m2 of low-lying fields into 4 fish ponds.
Kumquat fish live mainly in the wild, in rivers and streams, so it is very difficult to successfully raise this type of fish. But Mr. Pham Van Han chose to go in the direction of taking short to raise long, making a profit, while raising kumquat fish and raising 3,000 grasshoppers, 2,000 carp grasses, tilapia and hybrid carp, 5,000 red tailed cloves... to have production. products caught between harvests.
In order to raise kumquat fish, Mr. Pham Van Han built and invested in a very methodical and scientific pond, the pond bank was reinforced with concrete, the surface of the pond was always open. Motor vehicles can easily access the fish ponds when it comes to fishing.
From the experience gained while working at the Fisheries Center of Lao Cai province, Mr. Pham Van Han clearly understands the techniques and behavior of kumquat fish. Therefore, after only 3 years of stocking, the fish grow quickly, reaching 1.6 - 1.8 kg/fish, with a selling price of 500 - 700,000 VND/kg, it is estimated that the first batch can be collected after sold out. nearly 2 billion VND, minus expenses, he also made a profit of over 1 billion VND.
Mr. Pham Van Han said that the difficulty to expand the farming of kumquat fish is that it is very difficult to buy seed. But that's why the kumquat fish is sold at a high price. Sometimes the price is 2-3 times higher than salmon. Meanwhile, food for kumquat fish is mainly juvenile fish, shrimp, insects, worms, crabs... Compared to cold water fish food, it is cheaper, and easiest to buy, especially in rural areas.
Not only that, at the end of 2020, Mr. Pham Van Han established An Phong Fisheries Cooperative and embarked on building a model of linking aquaculture in the value chain.
From the very first day of its establishment, An Phong Fisheries Cooperative has chosen to go in a separate direction, which is to create clean, delicious and absolutely safe fish products, and to raise clean fish according to the model of product association. product value chain. In particular, the product ensures food safety and hygiene, with high quality…
With the support of the commune and district, Mr. Pham Van Han is currently building a brand for kumquat products and developing farming areas. day and based on the local weather and climate conditions... I have consulted and transferred techniques on breeding and disease prevention for fish to people to jointly develop fish farming."
Quang Kim commune has a water surface area of nearly 65ha. Annually supplying the market with 3,500,000 seeds of all kinds, the economic value is over 784 million VND/ha. Currently, the locality has established a cooperative group with 7 farming households.
Mr. Chu Van Hoi, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Chairman of Quang Kim Commune People's Committee said that the output of kumquat products is stable, even not enough to supply the market. The commune is focusing on encouraging people to develop the An Phong cooperative's kumquat farming model. Since then, raising the people's income to ensure the fulfillment of income criteria in the program of building new advanced rural areas.
Realizing that this is a new but highly effective economic development model, Quang Kim commune and Bat Xat district issued mechanisms and policies to support capital, technical and legal procedures to build kumquats into products. Originated, soon recognized and OCOP star.
Mr. Le Huy Giang, Deputy Head of Bat Xat District's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that currently, the district has 229 hectares of water surface area for aquaculture, the harvest in the first three months of the year reached 391 tons. This is the result of the policy of shifting in the right direction, applying science and technology to seafood production of the district over the past time.
Along with that, the Bat Xat agricultural sector also strengthens the organization of classes on transferring fish farming techniques and preventing diseases for fish. Encourage the conversion from raising and stocking traditional fish breeds to new high-yield fish varieties, intensifying on-site food processing to reduce costs, etc., in order to develop sustainable fisheries to increase incomes for people.
