Aquatic products are raised by city farmers in many new forms such as in cellars, ponds, ditches, tanks, cages, crayfish placed in ponds, along rivers, and in fields.

According to statistics, the aquaculture area of the Can Tho City in 2022 on 10,000ha, harvested area is about 9,000ha with aquaculture production reaching 220,850 tons.

In order to provide a source of high quality products and goods to serve the needs of consumption and export, increase the value of products, contribute to improving the efficiency of production and farming, protect the ecological environment and prevent diseases...

In recent years, the city's agricultural sector. Can Tho has promoted the construction of aquaculture areas applying GAP, ASC, SQF, BMP, BAP standards...

Up to now, the total area of food-safe aquaculture according to the city's standards is more than 300 hectares, of which over 275 hectares meet VietGAP standards and 13.75 hectares meet BAP + ASC standards.

A number of new applications have been leveraged to create a breakthrough for the city's aquaculture such as: the model of raising giant freshwater prawns in rice fields using all-male giant freshwater prawns produced by Israel technology to create herds. Fake female shrimp yields 1 ton/ha, profits increase from 35-40 million VND/ha compared to conventional giant freshwater prawn breeding.

The eel farming model converts the production method from traditional farming with mud using natural seed and homemade food to a mud-free farming method using semi-artificial seed, industrial feed (reducing risks, survival rate 70 - 85%, yield from 10-14 kg/m2).

The model of raising scads in earthen ponds, installing a fan system, aerating aeration, creating oxygen in the pond and biological products to treat the environment. This is to open a new economic development direction for people, with a yield of 1.2 tons/ha, a profit of over 40 million VND/year).

In addition, in districts such as O Mon, Thoi Lai, Co Do, Thot Not, aquaculture farmers have boldly controlled the 4.0 device to automatically turn on and off to control meal time and warn of power failure. The camera application connects to smartphones to remotely manage the security of the farming area, control the farmed objects, and detect abnormalities early when there are changes in the environment.

In 2021, Can Tho has 199 aquatic breeding facilities. in which many establishments have applied the technology of laying claws and hatching eggs in the production of pangasius, scad, scad... for high economic efficiency.

Currently, Can Tho city has 4 hatcheries that receive 8,800 broodstock from the Aquaculture Research Institute II to improve genetics of growth traits for aquaculture. commercial catfish. The adopted brood stock grew rapidly, with a high survival rate of over 95%.

For the increasingly improved pangasius breed, the growth index is 20-25% higher than the previous fish breed, contributing to improving the production of fingerlings and meeting the farming needs of the people. In addition, the food source is also improved from natural food with the risk of causing environmental pollution, which is replaced by industrial feed.
