On June 27, Vietnam Permanent Representative to the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Duong Hai Hung presented the Letter of Credentials to IFAD President, Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo.
Here, IFAD President Gilbert F. Houngbo expressed his admiration for Vietnam's achievements in poverty reduction and socio-economic development. At the same time, he highly appreciated the effective cooperation between Vietnam and IFAD's joint activities such as the active financial, technical and operational contributions of the permanent representative in Rome (Italy).
In addition, the IFAD President thanked the Government of Vietnam for the support of the IFAD Representative Office in Hanoi and facilitated the office to be upgraded into the IFAD Coordination Center in the Mekong region (Mekong Hub). ). In the coming period, the Chairman pledged that IFAD will continue to coordinate and support Vietnam in the process of socio-economic development.
Ambassador Duong Hai Hung highly appreciated and thanked IFAD for its role in supporting Vietnam during the past 29 years (since 1993) through aid sources, concessional loans and technical and supplementary assistance. important resources for socio-economic development, especially in the field of agriculture and rural development.
In order to promote effective cooperation with IFAD in the coming time, Ambassador Duong Hai Hung suggested that IFAD continue to support Vietnam through studying preferential loan conditions and assisting Vietnam in finding funding sources. support and co-finance IFAD projects for low-return areas and in the areas of environmental protection and climate change response in vulnerable areas.
IFAD Fund is a specialized agency of the United Nations established in 1977 and headquartered in Rome, Italy, with the goal of supporting poverty reduction in rural areas of developing countries. Vietnam joined IFAD in 1997. The organization currently includes 177 members and Vietnam is among the few countries that enjoy special preferential loans from IFAD with interest rates of 0.75-1%/year and payment term of 50 years. |
