Compared to traditional eel farming, mud-free eel farming is a clean farming form, easy to observe the growth and health of eels, completely using the industrial feed, so it is very convenient to manage feed.
In particular, eels raised by sludge-free technology have high economic value and stable selling prices. From the above advantages, eel farming has opened up a new direction, helping people to increase their income, develop the family economy, and contribute to the development of many localities in the Mekong Delta.
Mr. Le Huu Huan's family, in Chau Phong commune, Tan Chau town, An Giang, only need an area of 30m2 to be able to stock 4,000 semi-artificial eels raised in the form of no mud. After 12 months of farming, the yield reached over 1 ton of eels, sold for a profit of over 60 million VND.
Mr. Lam Van Doan Xuan, in Phu Binh commune, Phu Tan district, An Giang 2018 learned the mud-free eel farming model for high economic efficiency, he boldly invested in starting a business. Initially, due to lack of experience, raised eels suffered a lot of loss and low efficiency. At first, raising eels in plastic tarpaulin tanks with mud and dirt, so cleaning and taking care of the eels was very difficult, but the efficiency was not high.
After that, he switched to making a cement tank lined with ceramic tiles below for easy cleaning and water change. Currently, Mr. Xuan's family has an area of 250m2, including 8 cement tanks for commercial eel farming and 10 eel hatcheries. On average, each year he brings in income from raising eels and selling seeds over 300 million VND.
Talking about the technique of raising eel without mud for high efficiency, Mr. Xuan shared: First of all, prepare the tank. It is recommended to build a flat bottom, coated with cement inclined towards the discharge pipe, build bricks around 8 inches high and line ceramic tiles around the tank does not make the eel's skin close.
Cover design to avoid direct sunlight in the aquarium. Arrange the bamboo blister substrate in 3 overlapping layers, the layers of the bamboo blister are separated by a brick. Then proceed to pump water to soak the bamboo blister overnight and then drain, repeat 3 times. Then supply water to a depth of 30cm and drop Iodine to wait for stocking.
Stocking breeding stock, should choose a good source of eel seed, and use high-quality semi-artificial breeding eel. The size of the stocking stock is 27-30 fish/kg. Before stocking, it is necessary to bathe the eels with 2% saline for about 15 minutes before releasing them into the tank.
At the stage of care and management, the first 3 days after stocking do not feed the eels. On the 4th day, the eels were fed about 100 grams/day / 2 times in the morning and afternoon, gradually increasing the amount of bait, after 10 days, the eels could eat 1 kg/day / 2 times/tank. For eel food, Mr. Xuan chooses a food with a protein content of over 40% for the eels to eat in the first 6 months of rearing, then in the 7th month to harvest, choose food with 30% protein to create color for the eels.
In particular, in commercial eel farming, the density of water source management is extremely important. Water for raising eels with river water is passed through a settling pond before being supplied to the rearing tank, changing the water is twice a day after feeding for about 2 hours. Periodically disinfect the water source at the dose recommended by the manufacturer.
During the rearing process, aeration for the eel tank from 20 o'clock the day before to 5 o'clock the next day was stopped. After 12-13 months of stocking eels, Mr. Xuan harvested the head weight of 4-5 fish/kg, selling at 180-220,000 VND/kg depending on the type.
Ms. Huynh Dao Nguyen, Director of An Giang Agricultural Extension Center, said: Recently, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center is encouraging the replication of the model of raising eel without mud to a large scale in the direction of food safety and hygiene associated with the linkage chain. product value enhancement. At the same time, provide technical guidance to farmers so that farmers can boldly apply new technical advances to the mud-free eel farming model to increase income.
