Regulations Governing the Labeling of Honey for exporting to Taiwan

 

The Taiwan Health and Welfare Administration (MOHW) issued Notice No. 1111300822 dated May 11th, 2022 on Regulations Governing the Labeling of Prepackaged Honey and its Syrup Products.
This regulation of Taiwan is built based on Clause 10, Section 1, Article 22 of Taiwan's Law on Food Hygiene Management and will take effect from July 1st, 2023.
The main content includes: Prepackaged honey and syrup products with honey content 60%, the font size of the product name must be consistent and must meet the following requirements: (1) For the product with added sugar (syrup), the product name must be stated "Honey with added sugar" or equivalent words; (2) For raw materials other than sugar (syrup) with added but no added sugar (syrup), the name of the product must be marked with "Honey containing (with 〇〇 is the name of an ingredient other than honey)" or "Mixed/prepared honey" or words with similar meanings.
Packaged honey and syrup products with a honey content of less than 60% for which the word "honey" is included in the product name, the font size of the product name must be consistent with the label stating "Taste/flavour". honey" or words of a similar meaning.
The origin (country) of raw material origin of honey must be clearly stated on the packaging of honey and prepackaged syrup products, and at the same time, based on the content in turn recorded in descending order.
Prepackaged honey products labeled "Honey", "100% Honey", "Pure Honey" or equivalent words are products that contain only honey. For syrup products without honey, the name of the product will not be labeled with “honey/honey” or equivalent words.
The labeling of products that do not comply with this regulation, if found to be dishonest, misleading, exaggerated or misleading... will be punished according to the relevant provisions of this law.
