We have developed a rigorous analytical tool that is capable of making projections on the implications of the ongoing shifts on global fish production and reallocation of fish supply through international trade. The model, though with known limitations, is successfully calibrated and employed to evaluate different policies and alternative events and to illustrate likely evolution of the global seafood economy. From the modeling exercise and scenario analyses, it is clear that aquaculture will continue to fill the growing supply-demand gap in the face of rapidly expanding global i sh demand and relatively stable capture i sheries. While total i sh supply will likely be equally split between capture and aquaculture by 2030, the model predicts that 62 percent of food i sh will be produced by aquaculture by 2030.
This report serves as a practical guide for U.S. exporters wishing to initiate or increase exports of U.S. consumer-oriented agricultural products (fresh or processed animal & plant products; beverages; other snack foods) to Vietnam. It provides key updates on Vietnam’s policies and regulations that may affect exporters’ choices about how to approach this dynamic market. Although Vietnam’s maze of regulations has occasionally resulted in troublesome trade barriers, the country is making progress in reducing import tariffs per its WTO obligations and adopting more business-friendly practices. Vietnam is a participant in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations, through which the United States and 10 other Asia-Pacific partners are seeking to establish a comprehensive, next-generation regional agreement to further liberalize trade and investment.
Black pepper is the one of most important export products in Vietnam. As the largest exporter, Vietnam’s pepper commodities account for 58% of total worldwide exporters. However, Vietnam’s pepper production is dealing with disease problems, especially foot rot/quick death infected by Phytophthora capsici. The disease results in serious and rapid spread and infection in Vietnam, with yearly reduction of about 2% of total pepper area. Disease management is recently challenging scientists and producers. Investigating characteristics of Phytophthora capsici and causes, therefore, play a significant role in treatment. This paper has indicated three main causes, which contribute to serious infection and outbreak of Phytophthora capsici; they are biological characteristics, climatic condition and cultivation. To control this disease, early detection and prevention are the best ways to manage disease. Finding new varieties, which are Phytophthora capsici tolerance or resistance, is significant in black pepper production worldwide.
This book was prepared by Ernst & Young in Vietnam. It was written to provide a quick overview of the investment climate, forms of business organization, taxation, and business and accounting practices in Vietnam. While the information contained in the book was, to the best of our knowledge, current at the time of writing, the rapid pace of change in Vietnam means that laws and regulations may have changed to reflect the new conditions. Making decisions about foreign operations is complex and requires an intimate knowledge of a country’s commercial climate with a realization that the climate can change overnight. Companies doing business in Vietnam, or planning to do so, are advised to obtain current and specific information from experienced professionals.
In this study, Vietnamese households’ expenditure on dairy products for home consumption is analyzed using the latest Vietnamese Household Living Standard Survey datasets in 2010 (VHLSS 2010). Vietnam is the 20thmost important importer of dairy products in the world and it is foreseeable that the demand continues rising.
