Why is Japanese Miyazaki mango the most expensive in the world?

Although Miyazaki red mango has a high price, many people are still willing to buy it because of its special taste.

Miyazaki mango is a variety of mango originating from Japan, known as "Eggs of the sun". Unlike common mangoes, red mangoes have a red, unscratched skin and a sweet taste.

Every year, the best mangoes are auctioned to the highest bidder. In particular, the record set in 2019 is 500,000 yen/2 fruit (equivalent to nearly 4,000 dollars). Because of that, Miyazaki mango is known by many as the most expensive mango in the world.

These mangoes are sold at a very high price because of extremely strict and complicated cultivation and preservation. They are wrapped in mesh bags right on the tree and the fruits are left to ripen naturally. Fruit that is scratched or stung by bees will be discarded.
