Profit from rice cultivation increased by 3.5 - 5.9 million VND/ha
The smart rice farming program started in 2016 and has so far gone through two phases with great success. Smart rice farming in the Mekong Delta marks a new step in the direction of building and developing smart, efficient, safe and sustainable agriculture. Phase 2 is carried out in 4 seasons (winter-spring 2020-2021, summer-autumn 2021, winter-spring 2021-2022 and summer-autumn 2022).
Mr. Ngo Van Dong, General Director of Binh Dien Fertilizer Joint Stock Company said: After 2 phases, the smart rice farming program has so far implemented 495 demonstration fields with an area of 247.5 hectares in 13 areas. provinces in the Mekong Delta. After two stages of implementation, it has been shown that this is a very successful program in terms of processes, solutions and the transfer of farming techniques to farmers.
Many farming solutions have been applied effectively such as reducing the amount of seed sown to less than 80kg/ha, reducing the amount of fertilizer and suitable for each cultivation condition, effective irrigation management, pest and disease management. According to IPM, measures to reduce falls, harvest at the right maturity… These solutions have been highly appreciated by farmers, local and central departments and scientists.
The smart rice farming models all gave a higher yield than the control from 200-870kg/ha, the average profit increased by 3.5-5.9 million VND/ha. From there, contributes to increasing income for farmers in the model, and also a solution to stabilize and develop rice cultivation in the region.
From the effectiveness of the demonstration models, farmers in the region have benefited, many places have followed and achieved similar results. Currently, localities have also been applying the process and practices of the smart rice farming program to large projects and programs to develop rice in their localities in the period from 2021 to 2025.
According to Mr. Ngo Van Dong, in addition to providing smart and synchronous rice farming solutions to reduce costs, and increase productivity and profit for farmers, the smart rice farming program also conducts many training sessions. training and technical staff and farmers, helping them to actively apply farming solutions to their actual production in the most effective way.
To implement this program, Binh Dien and the National Center for Agricultural Extension conducted many seminars and training sessions with about 7,000 participants. Developed 25 videos to guide rice farming techniques and published thousands of technical documents, and smart rice farming manuals; provide technical staff and farmers with fertilizer sprayers, automatic salinity meters, soil pH test kits, alternate flooding-dry control equipment and smart pumping stations... Especially In 2021, Binh Dien invests in installing 1 more pest monitoring station, 13 saltwater monitoring stations, bringing the total to 22 stations for the entire Mekong Delta region.
Entering 2022, Binh Dien will continue to put into use the smart rice farming app and guide people to install the app in most events so that Binh Dien can take care of its people and agents. quickly and professionally. In addition, the program also focuses on analyzing soil samples in all models in each crop and analyzing rice samples to evaluate pesticide residues to support control of safety criteria for output products.
