Faced with this situation, Nha Ho Institute has researched and improved the type of grapevine over the head into a Y-shaped vine for fresh grapes and combined with a rainproof plastic film, insect net, and fence type for products. grape production for wine processing. These models are suitable for hot and dry conditions and high winds all year round in the South Central provinces.

Simultaneously, the Institute also researched and applied water-saving technology in combination with fertilizing through the irrigation system, with sensors attached to monitor soil moisture; The design of the insect screen bag has a pulley system to limit insects and animals harmful to grapes.

Nha Ho Institute also studies to increase the use of organic fertilizers and micro-organisms for soil improvement. Along with that, prioritizing the use of biological pesticides in grape growing; using grape bunches to limit disease and pest attacks, help reduce pesticide residues on grapes when harvested. This also contributes to ensuring the color of the grapes at the harvest stage.

“The model of using new grape variety NH01-152, applying high technology in the production process has saved over 20% of irrigation water compared to conventional production; reduce the number of pesticides from 55 - 60%, reduce the amount of fertilizer from 15 - 20%; reduce the number of production crops/year (the model uses the new grape variety to produce 2 crops/year and the local people produce 3 crops/year for Red Cadinal); grape products are of good quality (Brix from 16 to 18%), the average yield is 14-15 tons/ha/crop", said Dr. Mai Van Hao.

The model of sustainable viticulture, adapting to climate change, has brought farmers a revenue of 1.4 - 1.5 billion VND/ha/crop, and economic efficiency increased by over 20% compared to production—traditional production, contributing to creating jobs for local workers.
