Can Tho City is one of the key agricultural production provinces in the Mekong Delta, organic agricultural production is also concerned by this locality and recommended for application. According to Mr. Tran Thai Nghiem, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Tho City, at present, Can Tho city has nearly 80,000 hectares of rice and fruit crops on 23.5 thousand hectares and nearly 3,000 hectares of aquaculture land. . Currently, in general, farmers use chemical fertilizers and pesticides still a lot, so the production of organic agriculture is still very limited.

The production of organic agriculture is currently considered an inevitable trend in agricultural production of Can Tho in particular and Vietnam in general, in order to meet the increasing demands of domestic and foreign consumers; At the same time, it contributes to the protection of the ecological environment and human living environment.

Currently, the agricultural sector of Can Tho city is also recommending farmers and farms to produce production in the direction of organic agriculture to meet standards such as VietGAP, GlobalGAP ..., besides, some businesses investing in organic agriculture have boldly invested in organic agriculture. eliminate the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in production, and instead use organic fertilizers and bio-organic drugs. 

Currently, organic agriculture is also being interested by society and considers this a premise for the agricultural industry to focus on investing and reorganizing production in the near future. However, this will not be easy to do in a day or two. Because this is a transitional process, it requires the resonance of many branches and levels, especially the persistent determination of farmers.

Mr. Pham Van Quynh, former director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Tho City, said that in order to have a further breakthrough in the development of organic agriculture, it is necessary to have a long-term orientation and strategy for this issue. Because this is not the conversion of conventional agricultural production to organic agricultural products, an important factor in it must be long-term sustainability. When it comes to sustainability, we must think of sustainability from land and water first, then apply techniques, organic fertilizers, biological pesticides , thereby creating sustainable products. and have quality.

According to Quynh, at present, countries around the world are focusing on high organic agricultural products such as Europe, the US, Australia, Japan, etc., but the production of organic agricultural products in Vietnam is still limited and cannot meet the requirements. many markets around the world. In order to do this, the agricultural sector needs to grasp the market, implement the planning of organizing large-scale organic agricultural production areas and have enterprises as the locomotives to stand out to link consumption for farmers.

The next problem, when producing organic agriculture, it is necessary to have a source of bio-organic fertilizers and measures to control diseases on plants and animals according to natural mechanisms. Farmers must know how to take advantage of by-products from cultivation and livestock to create organic fertilizers for crops or livestock, while helping to reduce costs, protect the environment, and improve community health. income for producers.

Dr. Ngo Thi Thanh Truc, Lecturer at Faculty of Economics, Can Tho University, said that the world market will increasingly demand for safety, clean, friendly products and environmental protection. Therefore, if our country's agricultural products do not meet this minimum demand, this is a big obstacle when promoting the development and formation of organic agricultural production in the future.
