Referring to durian, many people will probably think that it is a product of the western region of the river. But now durian is very attached to the East of the red soil. In the midst of the green of the vast rubber, cashew and pepper forests are the green durian gardens that are bringing a lot of income to farmers here.
Following in the footsteps of the farmers' union, we were truly satisfied with the 30-hectare "terrible" durian garden of Mr. Truong Van Dao's family in Bau Nghe village, Phuoc Tin commune, Phuoc Long town. Taking us to see the garden, Mr. Dao couldn't help but happily introduce us to the farming process to create delicious, local-flavored durians.
“Nature is quite favorable to Binh Phuoc because it has extremely fertile basalt red soil, especially this soil contains a high amount of sulfur, making durian meat very different from anywhere else. Accordingly, Binh Phuoc durian rice is more dry, sweet and not harsh, eye-catching light yellow color, sweet taste and never bored...", Mr. Dao shared.
Holding a round durian fruit in his hand, giving off a fragrant aroma, Mr. Dao added that growing durian is very passionate but also very hard, having a job every day. Taking care of durian trees is like taking care of a baby. Must monitor its "health" every day. Just see the early tree showing signs of "unhealthy" is to handle immediately, otherwise you will lose. Growing durian trees, from the time the tree is laid down to the time the tree blooms, collects fruit, etc., requires high techniques, but farmers have to tinker with their own hands and learn to apply it on their home garden in the most reasonable and economical way. .
Currently, the entire garden area of Mr. Dao's family is installed with an automatic irrigation system, marking the tree code, using symbols to track fruit until harvest, pest management as well as the care process. in the direction of bio-organic, so pests and diseases are limited, the stem is strong, and the yield is stable. According to Mr. Dao's calculations, each hectare of durian from the 8th year onwards will give a yield ranging from 15-20 tons if invested and cared for in the right technical process. With the current average price of 35,000 - 50,000 VND/kg, the income is billion VND/ha.
“For a long time, many people believe that using chemical drugs and plant stimulants is more profitable. But in fact, doing organic farming is really good in the long run because the soil is nourished, not degraded by chemicals, and the trees have a longer life. And the older the durian tree, the more juicy the fruit is and has high economic value", Dao confidently affirmed.
Mr. Dao added that in 2020, when the Covid-19 epidemic broke out, the consumption of agricultural products of the whole country faced many difficulties. To overcome, he did not hesitate to invest in building a system of freezing machines to preliminary processing and deep processing of products. Thanks to this approach, the family's durian brand is well received by the domestic market in the South and outside the North. Output for the farm's durian products he no longer has to worry about when the market fluctuates.
The story of Minh Tam's connection to growing durian
Not only Mr. Ba Dao's durian garden, realizing the benefits and opportunities for sustainable economic development from organic durian farming, most durian growers in Binh Phuoc have boldly changed. farming practices, and at the same time shake hands to link production, forming specialized farming areas. In which, typical is the Minh Tam clean durian farming cooperative group (Hon Quan district), this is one of the units with close links between farmers and businesses. In which, input materials, fertilizers, biological pesticides to science and technology are all supported by Loc Troi Group from A to Z, product output is fully covered by Chanh Thu company, and farmers People just need to focus on farming, their income is much higher than the traditional one.
We visited Minh Tam cooperative group at the time when the technical staff of Loc Troi Group was continuing to transfer scientific and technical advances. Mr. Nguyen Duc Hanh, the leader of the cooperation group, said that in the past, most local people cultivated pepper plants, until 2011, when pepper prices went down, along with diseases on trees flourished. people started to turn to durian cultivation. However, due to lack of technology, many pests and diseases, slow growth, low yield, and price pressured by traders.
Realizing the trend of organic durian farming not only reduces investment costs, good products, the company consumes the output, so since 2016, the association team cooperated with Loc Troi Group to build the highland area. raw materials for export Chanh Thu company. Through cooperation, most of the members have mastered science and technology, especially, the products made by the company will go to the garden to buy them all at a price that is always about 30% higher than the market.
According to Mr. Hanh, in the past 2021-2022, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has significantly affected domestic agricultural products. However, thanks to the close connection between the enterprise and the cooperative group, all the output of the past crop was purchased by the enterprise. The average price of durian last year fluctuated from 35,000 to 40,000 VND/kg, but the cooperative group still sold it at an average price of 45,000/kg. In which, 70% of durian grade 1 is sold for 48,000 VND/kg.
Nguyen Van Doan, technical officer in charge of fruit trees in the Southeast region - Loc Troi Group said that the group is cooperating with Chanh Thu company to continue building production linkages. to product consumption. In the immediate future, the group will implement the supply chain and link production on durian trees in Hon Quan. After this project, the group will implement the production linkage model in all districts of Binh Phuoc and the whole Southeast region, not only on durian trees but also other key products. other resources such as citrus trees, vegetables...
“In the trend of global integration, the brand is considered a passport for each product when entering the world market. Therefore, besides clean production, it is urgent to build a brand for fruit trees in general and durian of Binh Phuoc in particular. By building a brand, it is not only to sell products, but the greater value is to promote the image of the province. However, to do this requires a close handshake between the four "state, enterprises, scientists, farmers". The locality will create all favorable conditions for businesses to invest in Binh Phuoc, and at the same time issue appropriate mechanisms and policies to support cooperative groups, cooperatives and farmers to gradually master public science. technology, get rich on their own land," affirmed Ms. Le Thi Anh Tuyet, Deputy Director of Binh Phuoc Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
