Wild-caught snakehead
Currently, the price of wild fish directly caught at the ponds is as follows:
Snakehead type 1 (0.4 kg each) |
100.000 VND/kg |
Snakehead type 2 (0.2- 0.4 kg each) |
70.000 VND/kg |
Catfish |
70.000 VND/kg |
Climbing perch |
50.000 VND/kg |
According to Mr. Bui Van Gian, the price is higher than previous year by 20.000 VND/kg and yield is lower than last year but they can earn fairly good income. Due to favorable price, all farmers get encouraged. His family has harvested two ponds with 1000 m2 areas by using net to catch fish. He can earn 15 million VND from these two ponds. Another farmer named Pham Van Tinh also get excited thanks to 6 million VND earned from wild-caught fish.
Mr Tinh said the quantity of fish is less than half of the fish amount 5 years ago, and just as many as two third of last year quantity. This reduction has been foreseen because the 2015 rainfall goes down to the lowest level in the last 10 years, which limits the growth of wild fish. Catching even small fish by eradicated forms also cause harms to wild fish.
