How does the durian barn owner in Dak Nong do to make the price of specialty fruit increase more than 2 times?

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tho, owner of Tho Minh durian barn, Duc Manh commune (Dak Mil district, Dak Nong province) succeeded with frozen durian products for export. In the process of production and business, he has many advantages because he is supported by the authorities at all levels and functional branches, creating all favorable conditions for him.

Durian only has one season a year, but the demand for use is year-round. That is the reason for Mr. Tho to think about separating the segments and freezing the product to supply the market.

Initially, the facility's processed durian output was only about 10 tons. By 2019, seeing that Dak Nong thrived in fruit trees, the establishment boldly invested and built a system of large-scale frozen warehouses.

Up to now, each year, the facility processes over 3,000 tons of fresh durian. Durian is purchased mainly in Dak Nong, Binh Phuoc and Dak Lak; in which, the volume purchased in Dak Nong accounted for more than 50%.

Mr. Tho shared, realizing that many Chinese partners have a demand for frozen durian products, the family decided to invest in large-scale frozen storage. Freezing has helped the durian to be preserved longer.

Up to now, his family has invested in 7 frozen storages, with a total amount of nearly 7 billion VND. The freezing warehouse has a capacity of about 180 tons of shelled products.

“This solution has helped to consume a large amount of agricultural products for people in the region. The economic value of durian fruit after freezing is 2-3 times higher than selling the whole fruit, "said Mr. Tho.

In order for durian fruit to be of high quality, to meet the increasing requirements of the export market, Mr. Tho has cooperated with farmers to grow and collect. He often went to the garden to support and guide people on how to care for the fruit and properly collect durian.

Durian products of Mr. Tho's family are mainly exported to the Chinese market. The freezing of durian according to the standard process, keeping the freshness and quality, brings a profit of 3-5 billion VND/year.

Mr. Tho's durian processing facility is creating jobs for about 100 local workers, with an average income of 6-7 million VND/person/month.

Nguyen Xuan Tho is not only good at production and business, but also exemplary and enthusiastic in all movements, actively responding to activities in the area.

He always pioneered in contributing money to build rural roads, from which people in the village followed. Every year, he deducts about 200 million VND to contribute to social security activities and new rural construction in the area.

According to Mr. Tho, in the process of doing business, he has always been supported and facilitated by the local authorities and authorities at all levels. He hardly encountered any prohibition or harassment in production and business activities.

"The business mechanism is open, people like me are comfortable in production and business activities. Therefore, I am always ready to contribute and support the locality in activities", Mr. Tho shared.

According to Mr. Le Thanh Phong, Vice Chairman of Duc Manh Commune People's Committee, the whole commune has 120 hectares of durian, with an annual output of about 2,000 tons. In the past, people mainly sold durian to traders, with precarious income.

Therefore, in the area, having a durian processing facility on a large scale like Mr. Tho's family is a condition to help farmers feel secure in production.
