The beginning of the story of organic bitter melon growing of Mr. Phan Thanh Su's family, in Hamlet 6, Hoa My Commune, Phung Hiep District - Hau Giang is also quite normal like other bitter melon growing households in the locality. But the difference of Mr. Su is that he says no to chemical fertilizers, but only uses 100% organic matter, which is a product of SEA soil improver produced by Nguyen Thanh Hai Trading Co., Ltd. So for nearly 3 years, his bitter melon garden has been used to plant around 8 durian and Thai custard-apple gardens with stable yields and always higher prices than other gardens growing bitter melon using chemicals. from 1,500-2,000 VND/kg.
Mr. Phan Thanh Su said: Especially when growing bitter melons, they like to be "built" out in ditches or ponds, both helping the trees to cool and easily crawl and get enough light without being folded or hidden from the sun, so the tree will for wrong and heavyweight. At the same time, it is convenient to care for and harvest fruit.
To have this successful result, Mr. The sincere sharing: Because in the past, the family lived mainly on 8 fields of rice cultivation 3 crops / year to feed 6 mouths in the family, so the income was always precarious. Especially, Hoa My land is a low-lying area of Phung Hiep district, so it is extremely difficult to make summer-autumn and autumn-winter crops. There are five losing years, so it's very frustrating. Therefore, in 2019 he decided to turn the capital of the district's agricultural bank to hire people to come ashore to plant fruit trees, mainly 2 varieties of durian and Thai custard apple. Growing fruit trees takes 3 years or more to harvest, so what kind of trees should be planted during this time to get short and long. In the end, he chose to plant bitter melon while taking advantage of the area around the fruit trees and building a trellis for them to climb out of the ditch.
In the first years he planted bitter melon using chemical fertilizers, tree death often occurred, yield was not high, pests and diseases appeared a lot, especially unharvested fruit was rotten on the tree, so traders often bought it at a high price. short. From that reason, he happened to go to the Internet to find bad techniques and choose which fertilizer is suitable for the sustainable development of bitter melon and sell it at a high price.
By chance, he came to know about the SEA soil improver product, which brings many effective solutions for plants, including bitter melon. Knowing about SEA products, he contacted the company to order through an agent near the product supplier.
The first crop started planting bitter melon in the direction of 100% organic using SEA soil improver products. In the first planting period, Mr. Su made a solid rig and planted over 4,000 Van Phat bitter melon trees, before sowing, he plowed the soil and used SEA according to the ratio of 1/40 formula (ie 1 liters of SEA mixed with 40 liters of water sprayed for 1,000m2) evenly watered on the ground to prepare for planting. After sowing bitter melon about 1 month old, proceed to phase SEA at the rate of 1/80 (ie 1 liter of SEA mixed with 80 liters of water sprayed for 1,000m2) both sprayed under the root and sprayed on the leaves and added fertilizer. Organic fertilizer is about 250-300kg for the whole crop, divided into 3 times. The time to apply organic fertilizer is mainly in the stages of priming, after harvesting the first fruit and in the middle of the crop.
Mr. Su shared, growing bitter melon using SEA is both healthy and cost-effective by 35-40% compared to the previous use of chemical fertilizers. Because the use of SEA helps the tree to be healthy and grow quickly, the seedling mortality rate is very low, the fruit is not cracked. Especially, bitter melon grown in the organic direction is less susceptible to pests and diseases and prolongs the harvest time from 15-20 days to the new crop compared to the traditional way.
Normally, bitter melon planted 45 days is the beginning of fruit harvest, every 2-3 harvests for bitter melon growing with chemical fertilizers. Especially, his family's bitter melon garden The organic planting is 1 day apart for one-time harvest, but the fruit is shiny, the color is eye-catching. Mr. Su's average 4,000 bitter melon roots, each harvest yields about 300-400kg, usually 6-8 fruits/kg. The current selling price for traders is 12,000 VND/kg, sometimes the price is up to 14,000 -15,000 VND/kg, not enough goods to meet the needs of traders.
According to Mr. Su's calculations, on average, each harvest his family has an income of 2.5-3 million VND from selling bitter melon. Including a miserable case, after deducting all expenses for Mr. Su's family, the income is about 80 million VND. On average, Mr. Su's family can grow 4-5 crops of bitter melon in an organic way, the output is always fixed and the selling price is always high. This is a model that everyone should learn to follow, to enrich themselves.
Mr. Le Van Thanh, a trader specializing in purchasing organic bitter melon to supply to fruit and vegetable stores and supermarkets in Can Tho City said: Organic bitter melon cultivation is always welcomed by traders. and buy at a price several thousand dong/kg higher than traditional bitter melon to supply to supermarkets. Usually, the size of organically grown fruit is always bright and beautiful, accounting for 80-90% of the fruit in the garden and keeping it longer without worrying about rotten fruit, besides, consumers are more assured of quality and safety. Food Hygiene.
