According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), in the first quarter of this year, Vietnam's pepper export value to most market regions increased compared to the first quarter of 2021, except for Oceania, which decreased by 44.6 %. In which, the export speed of pepper to the European region increased the most (up 92.9%), ie nearly 2 times. Followed by America (up 63.5%); Africa (up 10.3%) and Asia (up 6.4%).
Thanks to such a strong increase, in the total pepper export turnover, the proportion of pepper exports to Europe increased from 20.21% in the first quarter of 2021 to 28.08% in the first quarter of 2022. In the opposite direction, the proportion of pepper exports to Asia accounted for 33.99% of the total export value in the first quarter of 2022, lower than 44.33% in the first quarter of 2021.
In the first quarter of the past, a number of single markets in Europe had triple-digit growth in export turnover of Vietnamese pepper such as Germany, up 178.9%, the Netherlands up 100.1%.
In 2021, the EU imported pepper from the world market to reach EUR 413.74 million ($438.56 million), up 28.3% compared to 2020. Of which, the EU imported 123 pepper from Vietnam. million EUR ($130.45 million), an increase of 46.9% compared to 2020. Vietnam's pepper market share accounted for 29.75% of the EU's total import value, higher than 25.98% in 2020.
The Import-Export Department forecasts that in 2022, the EU will continue to increase pepper imports from Vietnam.
