The unseasonal flood at the end of March 2022 has severely affected over 5,000 hectares of winter-spring rice in Quang Binh. The repair has not been completed, the cold air wave in the last days of April and early May happened again. Rain and high winds have caused thousands of hectares of rice that are ripe to be harvested or have begun to bow down.
The outer field of Tan Ninh commune (Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province) is several tens of hectares wide. A few days ago, when the rice was ripe and golden all over the field, people calculated that after the holiday April 30 - May 1, it would be time to start the harvest. However, in just the past two days of rain and wind, the entire rice field in the field collapsed as if someone pulled a giant harrow through.
On the edge of the field, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Lai (Tan Ninh commune) looked at a few poles of rice with only a few days left before the harvest had fallen and her heart sank. She said, the family has 5 sao of field, after the flood, the family tried to take care of it, so it was good and the crop was good. “Now it's bittersweet. If the water cannot be secreted, the rice seeds will germinate and are considered abandoned. If you reap it in time, it will also increase the cost of reaping a lot," sighed Mrs. Lai.
Mr. Le Van Hai (Vinh Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district) said that because the rice ripens early, more than 6 sao of his field is about to be harvested. Now encountering the scene "Red rice is boiling red, rice is ripe, it rains" is like having a severe drought. “The plains can hardly produce water. Washing the machine is not possible because the water is flooded. Calling people to reap manually, the work is high, so it can be calculated that there is a loss of capital. If the field is soaked after 3 days, the rice will become dreamy, germinating and damaged most of the time. This case thought it was a good season, but it was not good enough", said Mr. Hai as if crying.
On the afternoon of May 3, Mr. Mai Van Minh, Director of Quang Binh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, directly inspected the situation of rice falling in the fields in the localities of Quang Ninh, Le Thuy and Bo Trach districts. According to Mr. Minh, the initial statistics of the rice dumped area amounted to over 3,500 hectares. "In which, Quang Ninh district suffered the heaviest damage, followed by Le Thuy, Quang Trach, Tuyen Hoa ...", Mr. Minh said.
In order to promptly save rice and minimize damage caused by wind and rain, Quang Binh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development urgently directs and recommends farmers to actively overcome by draining and draining water in the fields as soon as possible . the better.
“For the fallen rice areas that are ripening, people actively reap and harvest early with the motto "greener at home than old in fields". The part of the rice area that is still green can be overcome by tying and rebuilding into clusters for the rice clumps to straighten up to limit damage, "Mr. Mai Van Minh advised...
In Quang Ninh district, in recent days, heavy rain and strong winds caused more than 1,700 hectares of local rice to fall. This is also the most heavily damaged locality of Quang Binh province.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuan, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Quang Ninh district, said that the largest area of rice falling was concentrated in the communes: Tan Ninh 552ha, An Ninh 337ha, Duy Ninh 155ha, Vinh Ninh 122ha... In addition, rain It also flooded 9ha of watermelons of people in Ham Ninh commune.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Ninh district has directed localities to guide people to overcome the fallen area by draining water in the fields, building trees, and bundling rice in clusters. The fallen rice areas are ripe to harvest early to ensure yield. "Farmers also need to actively visit the fields, regularly monitor and update weather forecast information to proactively take measures to protect rice," added Mr. Thuan.

On the evening of May 3, the weather forecast in Quang Binh still rained in many places. Mr. Phan Van Hao (Tan Ninh commune) slowly looked up to the sky. “If it is clear tonight and tomorrow, there is hope for the rice in the fields. If it rains, the rice plant will fall with its leaves, and the rice flower will retain water, which will also cause the rice seed to germinate. So losing the whole case is like not being able to respond," said Mr. Hao.
