2016 is expected to be a promising year for agriculture, forestry and fishery export due to the increase in market demand, huge opportunity on tax incentives and increased competitiveness from recent free trade agreements. Agricultural products that possibly have potential increase in export in 2016 include cashews, pepper, wood, cassava and vegetables.

The Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) has recently organized a meeting to exchange information with businesses on Burmese market and introduced HCMC Expo 2016 as well as a market survey program in Yangon and Mandalay.

HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam needs to create policies to promote investment in agriculture to build a farming sector to compete internationally, as the country integrates into the global economy. Investments in agriculture remain modest, although the sector involved nearly 70 per cent of the country's population, while contributing some 18-22 per cent of gross domestic product and 23-35 per cent of the value of all exports.

Le Van Banh, head of the Department of Processing and Trading Agricultural, Forestry, Aquatic Products and Salt under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, told the seminar that this year was forecast to be a promising year for the export of agro-forestry-aquaculture products due to increasing demands in the global market, and because Vietnamese businesses would have the opportunity to enjoy tax incentives from free trade agreements signed between the country and its partners.

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Monday urged authorities in the country’s south-central region and Central Highlands aeras to prepare long-term measures to cope with the current severe drought.

On 11/1/2012, the Intellectual Property Department (Ministry of Science & Technology) gave a Certificate of exclusive brands for the Suoi Giang tea. In the morning of 16/02/2016 in Suoi Giang commune, Van Chan District, Yen Bai Province, Association for Natural Protection and Environment in collaboration with the Vietnam People's Committee of Van Chan district celebrated the announcement of the decision in which 400 Shan Tuyet trees (scientific name  is Camellia sinensis) that are located in 4 villages, namely  Giang A, Giang B, Pang Can and Ban Moi and lie on the altitude from 1.300 to 1.800m with the age of 300 are recognized as heritage tree of Vietnam.

The Prime Minister has agreed to exempt from land rent for rubber replanting in basic construction period from 2015 to 2020. Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Finance to guide local people the implementation of land rent exemption under the provisions mentioned above; Ministry of Finance and other relevant agencies implement together.

According to the Vietnam Pepper Association, it is real that Spain returned Vietnam pepper products but with a very small quantity. Spanish authorities have recently detected the quantity of carbendazim fungicide exceeded the limit allowed in the shipment of black pepper of a Vietnamese enterprise exported to Spain. In 2016, the agricultural sector aims to achieve a GDP growth of 3 - 3.5%, a 3.5 - 4% increase in the annual production value, an turnover of  31 billion USD in exporting agricultural and forest products which is expected to reach around 39 - 40 billion USD in 2020. This information has been announced by Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, at the press conference organized in Hanoi on the results of work in 2015 and key tasks in 2016 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Under the impact of El Nino, Mekong Delta has to suffer from severe drought and salt water intrusion. The areas that could have been under severe drought and saltwater intrusion are 104.731ha, which account for 10.9% cropped areas of coastal region and 6.7% cropped areas of winter-spring rice crop in Mekong Delta.

Companies that used banned substances in livestock farming with be fined 80 – 120% of total violated animal value. The maximum value is 100 million dong. Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has sent official requirements to provincial, central cities’ authorities to strengthen inspection and check on banned substances in livestock farming.
